UPDATE: Tuchel favourite to become new Bayern boss

Bayern Munich opened talks Friday with former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel over replacing Carlo Ancelotti, according to BILD’s Christian Falk.

Bayern gave the Italian a swift boot in the wake of Wednesday’s calamitous 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Assistant coach Willy Sagnol took the reins on an interim basis, but club president Uli Hoeness said he wants a permanent manager in place by mid-October.

“We’re not under any pressure, but after the two-week (international) break we want to have a solution,” Hoeness told German radio station FFH, courtesy of Agence France-Presse.

With Tuchel out of work, the German gaffer has emerged ahead of Liverpool‘s Jurgen Klopp and Hoffenheim‘s Julian Nagelsmann as Bayern’s first choice.

Tuchel stepped down from Dortmund’s post after a public spat with chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke at the end of last season. He was unhappy with the decision to play against Monaco so soon after the bus bombing that left defender Marc Bartra seriously injured.

Regarded as an obsessive tactician with quirky training methods, Tuchel could solve Bayern’s identity crisis. Ancelotti’s laissez-faire approach reportedly upset certain members of the squad.

Should Bayern stick to schedule, the club could have Tuchel in place for the Oct. 14 fixture against Freiburg.
