Arsenal is slated to kick-off contract talks with Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck in the coming weeks to avoid having the players enter the final years of their current deals.

With Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the final term of their contracts, Arsenal has been hampered by a summer of doubt. As Ramsey and Welbeck’s deals lapse in summer 2019, Arsene Wenger and Co. are hoping to sidestep a similar situation, according to a report from ESPN FC’s Peter O’Rourke.

Wenger admits that contract talks have stalled with a number of first-team players, though the Frenchman adds, “We need a little breather and to focus on the competition, but we will slowly get back into that.”

In addition to Ramsey and Welbeck, Olivier GiroudTheo WalcottNacho Monrealand Petr Cech all have deals that expire summer 2019, and with Sanchez almost certain to leave next June, Arsenal’s squad is set to experience an overhaul.

Both Ramsey and Welbeck have secured spots in Wenger’s starting XI, with the former forming a two-man midfield with Granit Xhaka, the latter as a second striker to compliment summer signing Alexandre Lacazette. The two 26-year-old Brits are coming off stellar performances against Bournemouth, notably Welbeck, who had two goals and an assist in a one-sided 3-0 victory.
