International migrants account for a relatively small percentage of the world’s total population, about 3.3% in 2015 according to the World Economic Forum.

Of the 244 million international migrants recorded in 2015, 58% had made homes in developed nations, with just over a third originating from developing nations.

Over the last decade, several Middle Eastern countries have seen huge increases in the total number of immigrants arriving to live and work, while European countries have witnessed more moderate increases.

According to the World Economic Forum, over 60% of global migration still consists of people moving to neighbouring countries or countries in the same region.
